Scars can impact the body, brain, movement and emotions according to Jennifer Melancon, Doctor of Physical Therapy (PT), who is known as The Scar Lady.
Melancon uses a non-invasive tool call the Dolphin Neurostim to provide Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) pain therapy to help dissolve scar tissue. This therapy takes stress out of the nervous system. Scar tissues changes the way the brain communicates with muscles. Using the therapy reconnects the way the brain uses the muscles. The Dolphin tools can be used on scars of any size and can be done on a recent scar or a scar from long ago.
According to Melancon’s brochure, “Our brains keep a record of trauma encountered throughout one’s lifetime. Addressing scars can bring deeper physical and emotional healing.” Some of the benefits of scar treatment includes decreased scar appearance, decrease sensitivity of a scar, decreased pulling tightness of a scar, improved muscle function and activation decreased swelling and bloating an deceased pain.
Aside from scar treatment, Melancon provides physical therapy on both adults and children. Before treatments she looks at each patient as a whole which is known as practicing holistic treatment to determine what type of treatments are needed.
Melancon focuses on the pelvic floor of the body which she says provides one third of the support for the bowel, bladder and reproductive organs. Her treatments includes help for pelvic pain, post operation recovery of the hip or for prolapses of organs on the pelvic floor. Pregnancy and post partum support is provided as well as for incontinence and bowel issues.
PT, pelvic floor PT, cosmetic and functional scar therapy, ortho/neuro and pediatric PT, and wellness services such as private Pilates sessions, red light therapy, vibration therapy and more are offered by Melancon.
