BATON ROUGE – On Friday evening in Baton Rouge, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) was honored by the LSU Alumni Association by being inducted into its Hall of Distinction, Class of 2025.
“It’s my honor to be inducted by the LSU Alumni Association into their Hall of Distinction,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I am a Senator today thanks in part to my LSU education. Working together, we can make it possible for our young people to get a similarly great education, so they can become doctors, entrepreneurs, generals and Senators. Geaux Tigers!”
Cassidy graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 1979, and later with a Doctor of Medicine from their School of Medicine. He then spent over 25 years practicing medicine as a gastroenterologist, while co-founding the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic. He remains involved in improving health care, including as Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Educator, Labor, and Pensions.
Also inducted into the Hall of Distinction were Dr. Brent Bankston, the LSU Athletics Team Doctor, Mr. Lance Frank, executive Vice President and head of communications for CBS News, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Mike Jones, former Commander of U.S. Special Forces Command, and Ms. Ann Trappey, retired President and CEO for Forte and Tablada, Inc.

Cassidy and the other inductees were congratulated by Mr. Joe Carvalhido, President and CEO of the LSU Alumni Association.
“We are proud of Bill Cassidy’s contributions to our community, both as a doctor who served the least among us at Earl K. Long and through the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic, and as a Senator working to protect our state and coastlines!,” said Mr. Carvalhido. “We look forward to him continuing to help Louisiana and LSU.”
