Broussard City Council Meeting – October 11, 2022

The Broussard City Council met Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

James Abshire, Director of Parks & Recreation for Broussard gave an update for St. Julien Park. Abshire advised events have been occurring at the park thirty-six (36) weekends out of the fifty-two (62) year-to-date in 2022. For 2023 thirty-two weekend events have been scheduled out of the fifty-two weekends of the year.

Abshire advised of the Acadian Alliance which partners with the Cities of Broussard, Youngsville and Crowley along with 2D Sports and Fastpitch America Softball Association (FASA).

Councilman Kenny Higginbotham brought up only thirty (30) percent of Broussard’s children participate in playing soccer. Abshire advised this due to different variables and imperfections, however it it is being worked on and that the kids will come back to playing.

Resolution #723-22

A resolutions re-appointing Mr. Edmond Comeau to serve as the governing authority member of the Broussard Police and Fire Civil Service Board for a term of (3) years effective 28, 2022.

This was approved unanimously by the attending council members.

Resolution #727-22

A resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign a purchase agreement with Siddons-Martin Emergency Group and any other related documents for the purchase of a Pierce 107′ Heavy Duty Aerial Ladder Truck.

Deputy Fire Chief Justin Denals advised the need along with reasons for this ladder truck along, one being the ladder has a longer reach. The importance singing the contract now due to the price for the truck will be increasing effective November 1, 2022.

This was approved unanimously by the attending council members.

Introduction: Ordinance #22-743

An ordinance amending the 2022/2023 Operating Budget for FY2022/2023 for Capital Outlay in the amount of $250,000 for an additional turn lane on St. Nazaiare Road.

This turn lane would on Nazaire Road which would turn south and lead into SafeSource Direct.

This was approved unanimously by the attending council members.

Introduction: Ordinance #22-744

An ordinance amending the 2022-/2023 Operating Budget for FY2022/2023 for Capital Outlay in the amount of $96,600 for Tennis Court Improvements at St. Julien Sports Complex.

Abshire advised grants totaling $35,000 will be used to pay back towards the $96,500.

This was approved unanimously by the attending council members

For Adoption: Ordinance #22-742

An ordinance for the annexation of certain properties located in Section 39, Township 10 South Range 5 East Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, being known as the Gaspard Bertrand Bernard annexation in Voting District 3.

This was approved unanimously by the attending council members.

The next council meeting is scheduled for October 25, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers on 414 East Main Street, Broussard, LA.
