The Broussard City Council met Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
The August 2022 Budget report was unanimously approved by the council. Karen Fontenot, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) presented a report to the council stating this year’s sales tax revenue was 6% ahead of budget and the budgeted monthly amount is $604k and that August was 4% above that amount at $637K. Fontenot also reported that all of the city’s departments were operating at 1% to 4% under budget.
Stacy Conrad and Dr. Tina Stefanski made a presentation to the council regarding opioid awareness – One Pill Can Kill. The dangers of opioids which includes fentanyl was brought to the attention of the council. Conrad also stated colorful fentanyl that look like the Skittles candy are now available to fall into the hands of children who are looking to get high.

AT&T had real estate and attorney representation at the council meeting requesting variances for a cell tower on Albertson Parkway to build a new cell tower. An attorney for SBA Towers spoke at the council meeting requesting the variances be denied due to SBA having a tower available for AT&T’s use. The requested variances:
- Variance allowing the tower to be built within 1,000 feet of a residential subdivision.
- Variance allowing the tower to be built on a 65′ x 75′ lot instead of a 100′ x 100′ per the ordinance.
Both variances requested by representatives and attorney for AT&T were approved unanimously by the attending council members.
Ordinance #22-241 for Adoption – An ordinance amending the 2022/2023 Operating Budget of Revenues and Expenditures to increase authorized expenditures by fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for Capital Outlay Drainage. This was approved unanimously by the attending council members.
Ordinance #22-742 for Introduction – an ordinances annexing certain properties located in Section 30, Township 10 South Range 5 East, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana being known as the Gaspard Bertrand Bernard Annexation in Voting District 3. This was approved unanimously by attending council members
Blake Romero with Legendary Contractors requested a variance for a front setback for Lot 15, 113 Abercomie Way in Langlinais Estates from 20 feet to 15 feet. It was was approved unanimously by attending council members.
The next council meeting is scheduled for October 11, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers on 414 East Main Street, Broussard, LA.
