by KAREN LAGRANGE COX

During the Broussard City Council meeting on February 20, 2024, Ordinance #24-790 was introduced. The ordinance is to amend the City of Broussard’s 2023/2024 Operating Budget of Revenues and Expenditures for $1,848,000.00. The money will be allocated for the Eola Road Lift Station and Force Main Upgrade.

Ordinance #24-792, for $546,000.00, was introduced at the City Council meeting. The funds will be allocated to renovate the Police Department Facility located at 5801 Highway 90 East as part of the 2023/2024 Operating Budget of Revenues and Expenditures.

Both ordinances will need to be approved for adoption at the next city council meeting.

The council adopted Ordinance #24-789, which amends the 2023/2024 Operating Budget by increasing authorized expenditures to purchase additional police equipment.

  1. Evidence Pass-Through – State Contract $16,027.38
  2. Evidence Room Cage – obtained three quotes – $9,025.00
  3. Axon Interview Room – State Contract $12,608.44

The equipment costs a total of $37,661.02.

Police Chief Vance Olivier stated at the January 23, 2024, city council meeting that the requested equipment must be delivered within a specific time. Therefore, he plans to order the equipment well in advance to be delivered before the renovations start on the newly purchased building, which will later serve as the new police station.
