Instead of the name Krewe de Poo-Yie, board members decided to change the name of their Krewe to Krewe de Acadian.
The Krewe has decided to change its name after its board members received news that the Poo-Yie event, which had been inactive for the past thirteen years, will be revived by the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard, Louisiana.
Charles Sharma, Krewe de Acadian board member, said, “This is great news to see once again a tradition from the past picked up and revived. Armed with this new information, our board directors unanimously decided on a name change.”
The board members of Krewe de Acadian did not want to confuse people between the event and their organization, so they voted for a name change, hence the name change to Krewe de Acadian.
The new name for the Krewe was chosen to be inclusive of the entire region rather than just Broussard. Sharma stated, “Make no doubt our hearts and roots are still lodged here; however, we can now reach out further to include a greater membership base and community outreach.”
The Krewe de Acadian board members expressed their gratitude for all of those who have continued to support their mission and for the words of encouragement. they are so excited to have this encouragement in starting this journey of establishing the Krewe.
Upcoming events planned for the Krewe include a 5K run, a banquet, and a ball. The ball is set for January 20, 2024.
