In days past, people may have sat on their front porch talking about the weather. In today’s times, such weather discussions may likely occur on social media.
Ed Roy, a local meteorologist, recently started a Facebook group to do just that – to talk about the weather. The name of the Facebook group is Acadiana SkyTrack.
Acadiana SkyTrack aims to report severe weather, property damage, flooding, hail, tornadoes, and rainfall to the group members as alerts to help provide the members with awareness of severe weather coming to or in Acadiana. Roy provides weather reports along with the group members, who can also post photos to allow the group to be interactive.
Roy posted in the group, “If/when any dangerous thunderstorms develop in Acadiana, let’s gather here to look at them. Also, we can share observations as to what conditions they are producing.”. He also states, “The group will connect to the National Weather Service in real-time. They will appreciate the data.”
Roy is working on setting up Acadiana SkyTrack for live streaming on different platforms simultaneously, including YouTube and Twitter.
