LAFAYETTE, LA (Mar. 28, 2024) – Beginning Saturday, March 30, 2024, Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) will be suspending life-sized mannequins, in uniform, on the poles at Cajun Field for the Hurtman Rescue competition in preparation for the Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
The Hurtman Rescue competition simulates a lineworker rescuing a fellow worker who has become injured while working on the pole. The competitors must gear up with all of their climbing tools on and ascend the pole, secure the life-sized mannequin, and safely lower him down from the pole.
It is essential for residents to understand that these mannequins are not real people and do not represent any actual emergency or danger. The placement of these figures is solely for the Rodeo’s training and competition purposes, and there is no cause for alarm.
