A Youth Leadership Workshop was held last night at The Madison Banquet and Reception Centre in Broussard.
The workshop was lead by Carly Tomaine, Director of the Jay Henges Center for Youth Leadership. A native of Pennsylvania, she is based in Washington DC.
The workshop provided information on how to become effective activists for candidates and causes of their choice. Tomaine addressed learning skills like leadership, recruitment, communications, and activism and how to use those skills for a variety of issues.
According to Tomaine, political success is not determined by how much money a candidate raises or spends on a campaign. Political success is also not determined by social media presence, political party registration, nor by the news media. She said, “Political success is determined by the number of effective activists on each site”.
This training was hosted by Leadership Institute, a 501c3 nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.
