Commercial Fire at 1734 North University Avenue

NEWS RELEASE

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette firefighter were called out to a commercial fire at 1734 N. University Avenue, Shah’s Kwik Stop, gas station at 11:15 this morning. Employees at Burger King noticed the fire in the back of the building and called 911. When first responders arrived on scene, the rear of the building was on fire. Firefighter extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. The exterior of the building sustained heavy fire damage. The electrical services to building was damaged by the intense heat. The business was temporarily closed for repairs.

Fire official determined that the fire originated in a fenced in area attached to the building. The fire was caused by an improperly discarded smoking material.
