Bomb Threats at Target Locations

Lafayette, LA – On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) was made aware of an active threat aimed at two Target stores in Lafayette, Louisiana. One store is located at 4313 Ambassador Caffery Parkway and the other store is located at 3225 Louisiana Avenue. The threat was sent to a local news channel via email, which stated that there were bombs at each aforementioned Target locations, due to Target betraying the LGQBT+ community and that bombs were placed at the locations to cause economic damage.

The LPD and The Lafayette Fire Department (LFD) responded to both Target locations. Contact was made with Target staff, who were made aware of the incident.

The Target location of 4313 Ambassador Caffery Parkway was satisfied with the response. A review of their security system was conducted, and it was determined that the location was safe to continue operations.

A conjoined effort between LPD, LFD, and Target Staff was conducted to perform a thorough safety sweep at the Target location of 3225 Louisiana Avenue.

Neither of the locations was evacuated, and no explosive devices were located. These incidents will be further investigated, and any updates shall be provided upon request.
