LAFAYETTE, LA – On September 1st, 2023, The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) responded to a local hospital regarding suspicious circumstances involving an injured juvenile. LPD Officers responded to the local hospital and shortly afterward, it was determined that youth service detectives would be needed. An investigator was subsequently called to the scene and an investigation was initiated, which resulted in the suspect being arrested. It was determined through investigation that the suspect was caring for the juvenile during the timeframe in which the injuries occurred. Today, the injured juvenile, an 18-month-old male, succumbed to his injuries and died.
The suspect is identified as Alayjah Kennedy, 18, of Lafayette, Louisiana, and has been charged with one count of first-degree murder.
