UPDATE: Major Crash on East Broussard Road

Major Vehicle Crash in the 300 Block of E. Broussard Road

Update

Lafayette, LA – In regards to last night’s crash, the passenger, 52-year-old male, remains in critical condition in a local hospital. Originally, we reported that the crash occurred in the 300 block of E. Broussard Road; after further investigation, it was determined to have occurred in the 200 block of E. Broussard Road. Preliminary on-scene investigation showed that vehicle 1 was traveling East in the 200 block of E. Broussard Road when for unknown reasons, traveled across the center line and left the roadway striking two mailboxes, a utility pole, and a culvert.  Signs of impairment were observed, and a warrant was obtained for a blood sample to be taken. Driver 1 was arrested for 1st offense OWI, First-degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring, and Careless Operation. This incident remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.  

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Police is currently on the scene in the 300 block of East Broussard Road regarding a major traffic crash involving a single vehicle. The crash occurred around 3:27 a.m. When the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a utility pole.  The passenger in the vehicle has been transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. The utility pole that was struck belonged to Entergy, so residents in the immediate area may be without power. 

If possible, please avoid the area due to the closed travel lanes on East Broussard Road at the time of this release. As more information is made available, Lafayette Police will send out an update.
