Update Shooting Incident at Brook Pointe Apartments

LAFAYETTE, LA – Once on the scene, the Lafayette Police Department Investigators were able to develop and identify a suspect in the shooting incident at Brook Pointe Apartments. Investigators were able to disseminate information pertaining to the vehicle which the suspect was operating, to surrounding Law Enforcement agencies.

Not long after this information was disseminated, Louisiana State Police (LSP) was able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling on I-49 near Opelousas, LA. LSP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, however the suspect vehicle elected to disregard attempts to be stopped. A vehicle pursuit then ensued, which ended as the suspect vehicle came to a stop in Avoyelles Parish at the Bunkie Exit off of I-49. Following coming to a stop, the operator of the suspect vehicle elected to unalive himself by way of a self-inflicted gunshot. The incident which occurred on I-49 in Avoyelles Parish is being handled and investigated by LSP. All questions regarding the I49 incident should be directed to LSP.

The operator of the suspect vehicle was determined to be the suspect in the shooting incident at Brook Pointe Apartments. The suspect is a male and is identified as a one Norvel Etienne, twenty-six, of Morganza, LA.

At this point, this incident is listed as being domestic related, as it was determined that the suspect violently confronted the victim who is his ex-girlfriend and mother of his children. It was determined that the victim was attempting to leave her residence, when she was confronted by the suspect. The suspect then physically attacked the victim and escalated the incident by shooting the victim multiple times. The suspect then fled the scene via vehicle transport until he encountered LSP. The female victim remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

LAFAYETTE, LA – The Lafayette Police Department is currently on scene at Brook Pointe Apartments, located at 504 North Pierce Street in Lafayette, Louisiana, regarding a shooting incident.

At approximately 11:31 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the Brook Pointe Apartment complex. Upon arrival, responding Officers located one female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her person. The female victim was transported to a local hospital and listed as critical.

Investigators are currently on the scene and are actively working on the incident to determine leads. The incident will remain under investigation and any further developments will be provided as requested.
