UPDATE: DOTD announces that the southbound direction of U.S. 167 (Johnston Street) near Marie Antoinette Street is now OPEN to traffic.

Lafayette, La. – On June 15, 2023, at approximately 8:00 P.M., Lafayette Police responded to the 3700 block of Johnston Street to assist the Lafayette Fire Department with a road hazard. Fire and Police personnel immediately determined that both southbound lanes of travel on the 3700 block of Johnston Street were damaged and impassable due to the roadway buckling. The two southbound travel lanes on Johnston Street were closed due to the damaged roadway. The 3700 Johnston Street block is between Arnould Boulevard and Leonie Street.
Both southbound lanes on the 3700 block of Johnston Street are closed until further notice. Louisiana DOTD is on the scene and assessing the damage. Due to light traffic, the middle turn lane on the 3700 block of Johnston Street is being utilized to allow traffic to travel south; however, motorists should consider an alternate route if possible.
