Last week, I had to get gas between meetings. I pulled up to a pump that was not working. It was no big deal, so I searched for another. I got it rolling and walked inside to get a little snack. Well, the snack that I was looking for was out of stock. It was no big deal; I figured I needed to save the calories anyway.
Here’s the best part. As I walk toward my car, I notice a lady sitting in her car on the phone. In a fleeting thought…I wondered if she had the money to get gas and if that’s why she was on her phone. As I finished with my gas, I opened the door to my SUV, and I heard God say, “Offer her to put gas in her car”. I paused and thought about it briefly, then reminded myself of my philosophy: My resources are to be used as his hands and feet.
So I waved and let her know God asked me to offer you gas. She said to hold on and put her phone on speaker so the person on the line could hear what I said. So I asked again. Then she broke down crying in disbelief. Her friend told her that although it’s been tough the last few weeks, God would take care of her as long as she continues to be obedient to him. This lady was literally waiting on God to take care of her gas, and God used me. So I pumped her gas and was finishing up. Now all sweaty in my sports coat, she mentions that it’s been a hard few weeks for her. She blindly obeyed God with tough decisions, and her friend kept encouraging her that God would take care of her. As she wept, I hugged her and told her that God was and still is mindful of your every need.
I remember when I couldn’t put gas in my vehicle. I also remember praying for grace and mercy to get a card to work while at the pump. I would still pay for gas for others when I didn’t always have it for myself. For those who are givers, let me encourage you not to wait until you have a surplus to give. You can give what you have now. You don’t need to be rich to be a giver. You can give your time, money, words, and many other ways. Listen to his voice. He wants to use you to help others.
