The Broussard City Council approved Resolution #76-24 on August 13, 2024, to change the name of Bercegeay Road to Mayor Charles Langlinais Lane. This road is the main entrance to the new City of Broussard Public Service Complex (PSC), off Highway 90 East.
Charles Langlinais was a city council member from 1987 to 1990. He became mayor of Broussard in 1991 and served until 2018. Bercegeay Road will be renamed Mayor Charles Langlinais Lane to honor his legacy. Langlinais passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Langlinais’s wife, Carolyn, his son, Dave, and his sister, Angel Greer, were at the city council meeting for the resolution.
The Public Works Department will replace the Bercegeay Road signs with new signs reading “Mayor Charles Langlinais Lane.”
“Mayor Langlinais was a life-long servant of Broussard,” said Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque. “Our great city experienced tremendous growth and prosperity under his leadership. It is only fitting to rename Bercegeay Road, to permanently place his name for all to see each day.”
While in office, he was an innovative leader who attracted Home Depot, Walmart, Stine Lumber, and Albertsons to the city. He also led the community during the construction of Albertson Parkway and Ambassador Caffery.
