Lafayette, LA (September 5, 2025) – During the 2025 State of the District Address, Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. announced the launch of the LPSS Core Report, a first-of-its-kind accountability system designed to measure school performance through the lens of Lafayette Parish’s four Core Values: Growth, Opportunity, Culture, and Safety.

Each school in Lafayette Parish will now receive a Core Report every fall, reflecting the previous year’s performance. In the spring, campuses will also receive a progress report with a strong focus on student growth. Schools will be evaluated on a set of metrics tied to each Core Value and awarded one to five stars in each area, with the overall score reflecting the average of the four values.

Why the Core Report Matters

Superintendent Touchet and his leadership team developed the Core Report in response to two key factors:

  • The Louisiana Department of Education’s updated accountability system, which places increased weight on LEAP test scores.
  • The community’s priorities, identified by seven Lafayette Parish Advisory Panels, which emphasized the importance of educating the whole child through Growth, Opportunity, Culture, and Safety.

A More Complete Picture for Parents & Community

“We want the community involved in our students’ education,” said Superintendent Touchet. “We absolutely want our kids to be academically successful, but we also recognize that what happens outside of academics affects their performance. Our parents want to know that their child attends a safe school that offers opportunity and a welcoming, positive culture.”

Touchet emphasized that Lafayette Parish is the first district in Louisiana to implement such a system. “I know it will give parents and the community a more complete picture of how our schools are performing and serving our kids,” he said.
