Lafayette, LA (January 29, 2026) – We know rising bills are the last thing anyone needs right now, and we’re right there with you. Because of a nationwide power shortage—driven largely by huge new AI data centers—we’re all facing higher costs to keep the lights on reliably.

Starting this January, most members will see about $15–20 more per month on the Base Power Cost portion of their bill. It’s not something we take lightly, and we’re doing everything we can to keep the increase as small as possible.

The good news? SLEMCO rates are still 32% below the national average, and Louisiana electricity remains far more affordable than many other states.

Here’s what we’re doing together:

• Working closely with our power suppliers to control costs and boost efficiency

• Looking at new energy sources and partners

• Launching easy, practical ways for you to save energy at home
