The Mayor and some council members from Cap-Pelé, Canada has come to their sister city, Broussard, LA to help celebrate Grand Réveil Acadien. Grand Réveil Acadien in part celebrates the culture of Acadian people.
Among those who have come to participate in Grand Réveil Acadien is Cap-Pelé’s Mayor Serge Leger along with council members Yvonne LeBlanc, Eric LeBlanc and Louis Léger. They also had the opportunity to visit other areas including Lafayette, St. Martinville, Breaux Bridge, Lake Martin and Avery Island.
When asked if they like Cajun food, both Mayor Leger and council member Yvonne LeBlanc responded they very much like it and made comment on the spiciness of the food.
On November 13, 1984 a proclamation was made by the two cities for Cap-Pelé and Broussard to become twin cities. The objective of twining was to promote connections with each other that relates to culture, education, sport, tourism trade and industry.
Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. during Grand Réveil Acadien in Broussard, the proclamation of twinning will be signed to renew it.
Cap-Pelé is located in the province of New Brunswick on the eastern side of Canada. Their population is about 2,400. Cap-Pelé is in the process of merging with Beaubassin-East to become Cap-Acadie.
