The Louisiana Municipal Association (LMC) convention was held in Alexandria, Louisiana, this past weekend. Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque not only attended the convention; he returned to Broussard with a new role and a new award for the city.
Bourque was elected to be LMA’s eighty-sixth Second Vice President for 2023-2024.
For 2024-2025, Bourque will become LMA’s eighty-seventh First Vice President. In 2025-2026, he will become President, which will make him the eighty-eighth president of LMA.
Bourque stated, “I am proud to have been elected to the position of Second Vice President for the Louisiana Municipal Association. It is an honor to be elected by my fellow Mayors from across Louisiana to serve in this leadership role. The mission of the LMA is to advocate for the benefit of municipalities and to help all of us succeed locally.“
During the LMA convention, the City of Broussard and Council Members were recognized for their work on the city’s Envision Broussard Phase I Master Plan.
The award to the city and council members recognizes the completion of Phase One of Broussard’s ‘Envision Broussard’ master plan. This phase of the project along Main Street features major drainage improvements, an entry gateway structure, welcome signage, a ten-foot-wide concrete path for walking and biking, benches, trash receptacles, new lighting, bicycle stations, commemorative markers and other signage, ornamental trees, and landscape beds.
Bourque accepted the award for ‘Community Achievement Award – For Outstanding Community Improvement in Community Development’ on behalf of the city.
Bourque announced the award at Tuesday’s Broussard City Council meeting. Bourque presented each council member with an individual award from LMA.
