LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 29, 2023, 7:50 p.m.) – Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Radcliffe Drive at 3:41 pm. The carport and a vehicle were on fire when firefighters arrived. The fire was quickly progressing to the main structure. Firefighters battled the fire for approximately twenty minutes before getting it under control. The home and vehicle sustained major damage.

A mail carrier delivering mail called 911 to report the fire. The carrier alerted neighbors, who in-turned awakened the occupant of the house. The occupant escaped without injuries.

The fire originated under the carport. Fire officials believe an improperly discarded cigarette may have caused the fire.
