LAFAYETTE, La. (Mar. 4, 2024) – Fourteen individuals have been hired to become firefighters with the Lafayette Fire Department (LFD). The department is excited that these new recruits chose a career in public service, particularly the fire service. They will make up LFD’s 108th Recruit Fire Academy.

The fourteen recruits were hired to fill vacant positions within the department due to retirements and resignations. Manpower is always a safety concern on emergency scenes. Firefighting is a dangerous and strenuous job that demands adequate personnel to be effective, efficient, and reduce injuries. They will partake in our sixteen-week academy, which consists of academic and practical learning of firefighting, EMS, vehicle extrication, technical rope rescue, hazmat, and much more pertaining to emergency response.

The 108th Recruit Academy will culminate with a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 28, 2024.
