ARREST MADE
LAFAYETTE, La. (Mar. 10, 2024 5:23 p.m.) – In regards to the hit and run involving a pedestrian that occurred earlier this morning. An arrest has been made in reference to this incident. Aunjane Sims, 26 of New Iberia, LA has been arrested and charged with one count of Hit and Run (Felony). Ms. Sims was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Mar. 10, 2024 12:15 p.m.) – Preliminary on-scene investigation revealed Vehicle 1 was traveling Southbound in the inside lane of the 500 block of South West Evangeline Thruway. For unknown reasons, pedestrian 1 crossed the Southbound travel lanes and was struck by Vehicle 1. Driver 1 fled the scene before the officer’s arrival. This crash remains under investigation by The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit. The victim remains in critical condition.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Mar. 10, 2024, 3:23 a.m.) – The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) is currently on scene in the 500 block of South West Evangeline Thruway regarding a pedestrian accident that occurred around 1:59 a.m. on March 10, 2024. Preliminary investigation details indicate that a pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Traffic investigators have been called to the scene and are investigating the incident. LPD will provide an update as soon as it becomes available.
The 500 block of South West Evangeline Thruway from Jefferson Street to Eighth Street will be closed for normal traffic flow while traffic investigators investigate. Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route.
