MADISONVILLE, LA and WASHINGTON (Mar. 18, 2024) – Senator John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Representative Clay Higgins (R-La. District 3) announced $32,204,014 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants for Louisiana disaster aid.

“Hurricane Laura left many buildings in the Lake Charles community with severe damage. I’m grateful to see that this $32.2 million will help repair the St. Louis High School and benefit Louisianians in the area,” said Kennedy.

“The funding for St. Louis Catholic High School and the Diocese of Lake Charles is welcome news. My office worked closely with Diocese leaders to push through their applications through the FEMA funding process. During this time, our spirits were high, and our determination remained steadfast. To date, our office has delivered over $4.3 billion in recovery relief, and we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to deliver the needed resources for recovery relief”, said Higgins.

The funding includes:

  • $ 3,579,440.76 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School old gym. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $ 21,022,560.60 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School main building. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $ 7,602,011.74 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School for repairs to the campus. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
