Tonight, a portrait of Valsin (1825*-1899) and Emma (1839-1895) Broussard was unveiled at the Valsin Broussard House at 408 West Main Street in Broussard, Louisiana. The house was named after its former owner, Broussard, who founded the City. Emma was the former Emma Montet.

The portrait unveiling was held during a fundraising event by the Broussard Economic Development District for updates and repairs to the Valsin Broussard house.

Mayor Ray Bourque gave an overview of Broussard’s historical preservation, while Millicent Norbert, the Tourism Director, recognized the Valsin Broussard House and Main Street board members.

A presentation of the 2024 Historial Preservation Award was made posthumously to Harold Hollier, a descendant of the Broussards.

Descendents of the Broussards attended the event to honor their ancestors.

Local artist Ceci O’Keefe Neustrom created the portrait.

  • Incorrectly had 1824 as birth year. Corrected to 1825.
