Suspect Arrested for Setting House on Fire

LAFAYETTE, LA (Mar. 28, 2024) – At 10:11 a.m. this morning, Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 200 block of Eight Street. The dwelling was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. Two adjacent buildings were at risk of catching fire, but emergency crews managed to keep the fire from spreading. Firefighters had the fire under control within ten minutes. The dwelling sustained major fire damages. The adjacent buildings only suffered minor damages. 

The occupants of the dwelling indicated that a male set several fires inside. They exited the dwelling without any injuries.

The suspect, Gilberto Gaza Garza, forty-three, was arrested and charged with Simple Arson. He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
