LAFAYETTE, LA (May 23, 2024) – At 9:45 p.m. last night, Judice, Scott, and Duson Fire Departments responded to an alarm activation at Judice Middle School. When firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke was coming from the building. First responders entered the building and located the fire in a storage room for band instruments. The fire was quickly extinguished. The room sustained heavy fire damage along with several instruments. Smoke and water damage were noted in the immediate area.

Fire officials determined that an electrical failure of a fan in the storage room ignited combustible material. The smoke activated the school’s fire alarm and alerted fire dispatchers. The building was turned over to school officials.

Any details about the damage assessment should be referred to Lafayette Parish School System.

Judice Middle School is at 2645 South Fieldspan Road, Duson, Louisiana.
