LAFAYETTE, LA (May 24, 2024) – The Lafayette Fire Department seeks candidates interested in joining our Fire Explorer program through Boy Scouts of America. Fire Explorer Post is a hands-on program with classroom lessons open to young men and women interested in learning more about fire and emergency services careers. All training will take place at our training facility. Upon completing the one-week academy scheduled for June 3 to 7, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., explorers will have the opportunity to experience firsthand what it’s like to be a firefighter. The explorers will be assigned to a fire station where they will be mentored by firefighters, respond to emergency incidents, and participate in non-emergency procedures.

The orientation for interested applicants will be held at our training facility on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Students or individuals between 14 and 21 years of age are encouraged to attend the orientation.
