BROUSSARD, LA (June 5, 2024) – On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at approximately 12:36 p.m. Officers with the Broussard Police Department responded to the 100 block of Lake Edge Drive for the report of a drowning.

Upon officers’ arrival, they learned the victim and two other males working in the area entered a retention pond to swim. Witnesses stated the male began having trouble swimming and never resurfaced. The Lafayette Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted with the body’s recovery.

The victim is identified as Manuel Gonzalez, a 36-year-old Hispanic male; the Lafayette Coroner’s office removed the victim’s body from the scene.
