According to a news report from KADN TV15, former Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux has been disqualified from running as police chief in the special election on November 5, 2024.

On July 17, 2024, Boudreaux qualified at the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court to run for his former seat. Grayson Lynn Bolgiano Jr. filed a petition on July 22, 2024, objecting to Boudreaux’s candidacy based on Louisiana Revised Statue (RS) 18:586.

According to Louisiana Revised Statue (RS) 18:586, which went into effect June 6, 2023, “No elected official who has retired or resigned from state or local elective office shall be eligible as a candidate at an election called to fill the vacancy created by the retirement or resignation of the elected official.”

The special election was called to fulfill Boudreaux’s unfulfilled term due to his retirement in August 2024.
