LAFAYETTE, LA (September 1, 2024, 1:09 p.m.) — During this investigation, officers with the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit determined that vehicle # 1 (motorcyclist) did not stop for a red traffic signal at Twelfth Street and Surrey Street. The motorcyclist was traveling Northbound on Twelfth Street and collided with Vehicle # 2 while crossing the intersection on Surrey Street. The driver of vehicle # 1 has been identified as Isreal Riggs (27) of Lafayette.

LAFAYETTE, LA (September 1, 2024, 10:47 a.m.) – Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash involving a motorcycle at the Surrey and Twelfth Street intersection at around 10:12 a.m. One person has died as a result of the crash. Investigators with the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit are on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
