WASHINGTON (September 18, 2024) – United States Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will grant Louisiana $4,000,000.00 from his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for transportation projects.

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) will receive $2,000,000 for the planning, development, financing, construction, maintenance, and operation of an Airport Automated People Mover (APM) system, connecting the North Airport Campus, the South Airport Campus, and, upon its completion, the Amtrak InterCity Passenger Rail serving Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will receive $2,000,000 to improve pipelines, bridges, roadways, and highways, and to help alleviate congestion.

“Investing in our transportation systems helps Louisiana build an economy for 2050,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding will improve Louisiana’s transport infrastructure and address the difficulty navigating the New Orleans airport’s new and old terminals. This makes our state even more desirable for families and businesses.”
