LAFAYETTE, LA (October 4, 2024) – After two weeks of hard work, Lafayette Utilities System’s (LUS) linemen have completed Hurricane Helene’s restoration assistance in Tallahassee and Gainesville, Florida and are heading home.

“Considering the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, LUS did not hesitate to assist our neighboring mutual aid partners who aided us in restoration efforts less than a month ago,” said Jeffrey Stewart, LUS Director.

The alliance between LUS and neighboring cities like Tallahassee and Gainesville highlights the culture of cooperation and mutual assistance that defines our public power community. Through APPA’s mutual aid network, utilities nationwide come together in crisis to provide vital aid and resources to communities in need.

Mission Statement: As a publicly owned utilities system, we provide high-quality, competitively priced services that exceed our customers’ expectations, and contribute to the Consolidated Government to support other community needs.
