The Bridge Ministry of Acadiana (BMA) is a Christian community development organization transforming lives in Lafayette’s Four Corners area, one of the most under-resourced areas. Its mission is to alleviate poverty by empowering lives through spiritual transformation, education, and community development.
BMA achieves its mission through after-school tutoring, mentoring, programs for adults, and partnerships with local organizations to promote growth and lasting change. Guided by their faith, BMA is building a stronger, more resilient community, one relationship at a time.
BMA takes a holistic approach by integrating education, community support, and mentoring. This comprehensive strategy addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs to foster long-term growth and empower individuals within a supportive community.
Bridge Mentoring and Tutoring Program
BMA offers its free, data-driven after-school program at two locations to over 135 students in need. The mission is to help students close the achievement gap, build confidence, and develop the life skills they need to succeed in school and life. The organization is committed to empowering the next generation to rise above obstacles and become leaders in their community.
The program is open to kindergarten through 6th-grade students, focusing on those from under-resourced communities and families facing generational poverty. The aim is to help each student thrive spiritually, academically, and personally through personalized tutoring and mentorship. The program has achieved a 100% success rate related to their children passing to the next grade. BMA students all advance to the next grade and surpass the average education levels in math and English. Many have gone on to very successful lives: teachers, educational majors, entrepreneurs, and even a law school graduate.
GROW Summer Program
The six-week summer enrichment program eliminates the summer slide. Summer slide is the result of the lack of academic learning practices during the summer months. All of our GROW Summer program students return to school much more prepared for the upcoming school year according to their teachers.
