LAFAYETTE, LA (December 4, 2024) – At 6:18 a.m. Lafayette firefighters responded to a shed fire in the backyard of a home in the 500 block of St. John Street. The wood-constructed shed was fully involved when first responders arrived on the scene. The fire was extinguished within fifteen minutes. The shed sustained heavy fire damage.

The fire did not damage the main dwelling. The building owner informed fire officials that the building was secured a few days ago. He experienced homeless individuals living inside the shed.

Fire officials are investigating whether someone was sleeping inside the shed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
