Submitted by United States Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana

WASHINGTON (December 20, 2024) – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) issued the following statement on his vote in support of a bill to avert a government shutdown by extending federal funding through March.

“My priority was to prevent the flood insurance program from lapsing, secure our border, and fund our troops. I commend Speaker Johnson for his ability to unite a divided House,” said Dr. Cassidy. “And after a long battle to provide public workers with the full Social Security benefits they earned, we succeeded in repealing WEP and GPO! Anyone interested in the federal government being fair to all Americans should consider this important.”
