LAFAYETTE, LA (January 2, 2024) – At 4:58 p.m., Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of Eleventh Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes. The single-family dwelling was occupied by a mother of two and her brother. The occupants were outside and safe when first responders arrived on the scene.

The home sustained moderate fire damage. Due to the amount of damage and disconnected utilities, the family was displaced. Fire officials determined the fire originated in the wall of the bathroom. An electrical outlet malfunctioned, igniting the wall studs and spreading to the attic space. The fire was ruled an accident.
