UPDATE: Fatal Vehicle Crash Involving Several Vehicles on 6000 Block of Ambassador Caffery

Lafayette, LA (February 9, 2026, 6:14 p.m.) On February 9, 2025, at approximately 14:08 hours, the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the 5900 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway at Vivian Drive in reference to a major vehicle crash involving five vehicles.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was traveling in the outside lane of Ambassador Caffery Parkway when, for reasons still under investigation, struck the rear of Vehicle 2, causing Vehicle 2 to spin and strike three other vehicles.  Driver 1 was pronounced dead on the scene.  All other drivers and passengers were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries but in stable condition.

Intoxication is not believed to be a factor in this crash, but standard toxicology tests were given, and results are pending.  This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit. All lanes of travel on Ambassador Caffery Parkway have been opened.

Lafayette/Youngsville, LA (February 9, 2025) – Lafayette Police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred around 2:08 p.m. at the 6000 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

Preliminary Investigation:

  • Officers with Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit are currently on scene investigating the fatal crash.

Traffic Impact:

  • Road Closure: All southbound lanes of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy between Chemin Metarie and Bonin Rd are closed.
  • Detour: Motorists are advised to avoid this area and seek alternate routes.

Investigation:

  • Lafayette Police Department investigators are currently on the scene.
  • The investigation is ongoing.
