Broussard, LA (September 8, 2025) – The City of Broussard has been approved for a $3,710,000 grant from the State of Louisiana, Office of Community Development – Water Sector Commission
for water system improvements. The Water Sector Program – Phase 2 grant award will be used to help fund the city’s water system improvement master plan.

“We are grateful to the Office of Community Development for this grant award,” said Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque. “This funding will assist us to update our current water system and build additional water infrastructure needed to manage growing demand in our city.”

The $10 million, five-part water system master plan was developed in July 2024. It is a blueprint to expand and enhance the city’s water supply system by upgrading storage, capacity, water system modeling, system rehabilitation, and nterconnectivity.

“Since last year, we have made tremendous progress on making our water system better,” said Bourque. “We have completed several projects, including the rehabilitation of our two water towers, on Highway 90 and Main Street, respectively, creating additional water wells along Lake Talon Road, and upgrading master meters on Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Heart D Farm Road, and Albertson Parkway.

The plan also calls for expanding water storage and capacity, improving wells, and
replacing aging water lines across the city. These projects will take approximately two to three more years to complete.

In addition, Broussard received an A-grade for both city water systems from the
Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) in May 2025. The City of Broussard Water
System earned a score of 105% (A), while the City of Broussard Highway 90 Water
System achieved a 99% (A) score.

“The immense headway we’ve made on improving Broussard’s water system, and the high ratings the city has earned from LDH, show our commitment to improving our water system. An excellent water system will be the foundation for the future of our great city.”
