(February 23, 2026) – A lifelong resident of Broussard, Louisiana, Trey Smith grew up on Huval Drive in the Huval Holiday subdivision. His father, Murrell Smith II, who goes by Tommy, still lives in the house where Smith grew up.
He is actually Murrell Smith III but goes by Trey. He and his wife and children live on Papa Joe Drive, the street perpendicular to the one he grew up on.
Tommy moved to St. Martinville from Rayville while he was in middle school. He and his wife, Mary Alice Guilbeau (now deceased), from Catahoula, moved to Broussard in 1981 and raised their family there. Trey was born a year later.
A large part of Trey’s childhood was spent hunting and riding 4-wheelers on the Anzalone properties, where places like Camelot Nursing, Loft 18, and other businesses and housing now line what is Albertsons Parkway.
Trey attended Katherine Drexel Elementary School, Broussard Middle School, Comeaux High School, and graduated from Heritage Christian Academy.
The day he turned 18, he went to work in the oil field industry, mostly for service companies. At age 22, he began working for Gammaloy.
Tommy and his father, Murrell Smith I, both worked in the oilfield. In 1998, Tommy started a small two-man oilfield-related business, Tomco Sales & Service, to make a living.
After Tommy’s father was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, Smith was encouraged by his father to take a leave of absence from his job to manage Tomco’s sales while Tommy focused on caring for his father during his illness. What began as a one-year leave of absence eventually turned into a long-term career move.
Many of Smith’s friends from the oilfield had moved to Houston for better opportunities and encouraged him to go to Houston to make float valve sales, which helped him establish his career portfolio. In 2016, he became Sales and Operations Manager, a position he holds today.
He is involved with Vacation Bible School at St. Cecilia Catholic School and serves on St. Cecilia’s long-range planning committee, working with others to develop a seven-year construction plan, including a new gym, to benefit future students.
For the past seven years, Smith has been involved with the Broussard Community Fair; proceeds from the fair benefit St. Cecilia.
