Father Jacob “Jake” Schlossberg and his family have called the Lafayette–Youngsville area home for the past three years. Father Jake serves as the Chaplain for Ascension Episcopal School, a mission of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette, and as Associate for the Youth Ministry at the church.
Prior to coming to this area, he was ordained as an Episcopalian Priest by Biship Greg Brewer in Orlanda, Florida.
While studying to become a priest, he was in Wisconsin; before that he lived in Chicago and Virginia.
As Chaplain of Ascension, he leads chapel services for all three campuses of Ascension – the pre-school in River Ranch, lower and middle school on the church campus, and the upper campus at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville.
His chaplain duties consisting of supporting the spiritual life of students and faculty on Ascension’s campuses.
He leads Bible studies at the upper school and teaches Christian education at the preschool, where chapel is held every Wednesday. Father Jake especially enjoys seeing the preschoolers’ parents join them for chapel, making it a meaningful experience.
Father Jake describes his favorite part of his role as the connections he builds with students and faculty. “I enjoy being available to them, whether it’s to shoot the breeze, offer support during struggles, celebrating or anything in between,” he said. He finds joy in leading worship for students of all ages, from three to eighteen, always doing it ways that are age-appropriate for all of them.
Though he finds Louisiana’s summers too hot, Father Jake enjoys living in the area and the local food, which by the way he doesn’t find to be too hot. He and his wife, Jillian, are the proud parents of three children, ranging from 2nd grade to under a year old.
