LAFAYETTE, LA (Jun. 11, 2024) – The Looking Glass Theatre Company is proud to announce their production of Into the Woods directed by Pete Byrne, from June 20 to June 30, 2024.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical – with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine – takes everyone’s favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

“It has been lots of fun tackling Sondheim, getting to know the show, and adding in our own little touches,” says Into the Woods director Pete Byrne. “It’s a lively, heartfelt show that is darkly funny – and beloved by theatre fans. We want to honor that legacy and bring it home to Lafayette audiences.”

Into the Woods is the eighth production from The Looking Glass Theatre Company, rounding out its second full season. Previously, The Looking Glass presented productions, including The Sound of Music, 9 to 5 The Musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Steel Magnolias, and more for Lafayette audiences. The mission of The Looking Glass Theatre Company is to provide performing arts enrichment and professional theatre opportunities in the Acadiana area.

“Acadiana is in the midst of a community theatre renaissance. It’s an exciting time for local theatre,” says The Looking Glass Theatre Company’s Founder, Allison Barron Brandon. “And we are thrilled to contribute to that movement. We feel lucky to be able to share our passion for performance with new audiences.”

Rounding out the show’s production team are Cory Murray, Music Director; Vocal Director, Brii Simmons; Stage Manager, Blake Lagneaux; Rehearsal Pianist, Lily Ledet; Set Designer, James Nicholson; Choreographer, Melissa Bowen; and Costume Designer, Shannon Billeaud.

Wonderland Center for Performing Arts, located at 2807 Johnston Street, will host the show. Single tickets are available online for $28 at https://our.show/woods or in person at Wonderland’s box office for $30 on show dates.
