Submitted by United States Representative Clay Higgins of the 3rd District in Louisiana.

WASHINGTON (July 2, 2024) – Congressman Higgins (R-LA) commended the injunction issued by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against the Biden administration’s indefinite pause on American liquified natural gas (LNG) export projects.

“Yesterday’s ruling is a win for American energy and South Louisiana,” said Congressman Higgins. “My office has argued for months that the Biden administration does not have the authority to indefinitely halt permitting for new LNG export projects. This ruling from the Western District of Louisiana affirms our position. I will continue to work at the federal level to enact policies that increase domestic production and support American energy dominance.”

Congressman Higgins has been a vocal opponent of Biden’s pause on LNG export permits. In April, he introduced the LNG Permitting Improvement Act, which would establish a shot clock for reviewing applications for natural gas export and import orders. In February, Congressman Higgins also voted to override the permitting ban by co-sponsoring and voting to pass the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which would reverse the permitting pause on American LNG exports.

During a recent Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, Congressman Higgins questioned U.S. Department of Energy officials on the legal authority behind Biden’s permitting directive. Watch the exchange here.
