WASHINGTON (July 29, 2024) – United States Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) issued the following statement on President Joe Biden’s unconstitutional and radical proposal for the Supreme Court:

“Just because you don’t like the results, doesn’t mean you can overthrow the Constitution,” said Dr. Cassidy. “There’s a 0.0 percent chance of Joe Biden’s reforms happening, but it will 100 percent be the exclamation point on his legacy of vast overreach. I oppose this as should all constitutional conservatives.”

The Constitution was created with a system of checks and balances in order to keep one branch from overpowering another. Biden’s radical proposal includes term limits for Supreme Court justices directly contradicting Article III of the Constitution which states that Supreme Court justices serve lifetime appointments. This provision was intended to protect the Court from politics and ensure its independence as a co-equal branch of government.
