Cassidy Announces $4.6 Million for Louisiana in Flood Protection and Emergency Preparedness

WASHINGTON (August 2, 2024) – United States Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced New Orleans and Calcasieu Parish will receive $4,574,736.35 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in flood protection and emergency preparedness.

“The best way to prevent future devastation is to put precautions in place like these wind retrofits, generators, and stormwater drainage systems,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding will help South Louisiana be prepared when the next storm hits.”

$1,649,232.25City of New Orleans Stormwater Drainage ProjectThis grant will provide federal funding for stormwater drainage improvements to reduce flooding in the Bayou St. John neighborhood.
$1,620,000.00Calcasieu ParishThis grant will provide federal funding for emergency critical facility generators at the Calcasieu Parish Public Works East Building and the Calcasieu Parish Magnolia Building.
$90,000.00Calcasieu ParishThis grant will provide federal funding for management costs associated with the emergency generators.
$1,151,530.20Office of Risk ManagementThis grant will provide federal funding for the University of New Orleans’ proposal to wind retrofit the existing windows, overhead doors, roofing and adding hurricane straps to rooftop mechanical equipment for protection during high wind events.
$63,973.90Office of Risk ManagementThis grant will provide federal funding for the proposal of wind retrofits to existing windows, overhead doors, roofing and adding hurricane straps to rooftop mechanical equipment.
