Lafayette High’s Amanda Blanco Honored as 2025 Louisiana School Librarian of the Year

LAFAYETTE, LA (March 24, 2025) – The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) proudly congratulates Amanda Blanco, librarian at Lafayette High School, on being named the 2025 Louisiana School Librarian of the Year. This prestigious award, presented by the Louisiana Library Association, recognizes outstanding dedication to the mission and goals of the library profession within the state of Louisiana. The announcement was made at the Louisiana Library Association conference on Saturday, March 22.

Each applicant for the award is evaluated by a committee based on selection criteria including exemplary service to students and the school community, effective promotion of the library and its services, creativity in programming, collaboration, outreach, student engagement, application of 21st-century technology and information literacy skills, and leadership.

Mrs. Blanco has served as a librarian for LPSS for over 12 years and has been an educator in the district for 20 years. She has significantly increased student traffic to the LHS library through innovative programming initiatives and the creation of a tailored reading program designed to engage and inspire students. Her leadership extends beyond the library, as she actively volunteers on several district teams, serves on the state executive board for school librarians, and contributes to the Louisiana Young Reader’s Choice Committee. She is also a dedicated member of multiple professional organizations, further demonstrating her commitment to education and literacy.

Through her dedication, innovation, and leadership, Mrs. Blanco has made a lasting impact on her students, colleagues, and the broader educational community. Her passion for literacy and commitment to student success exemplify the qualities honored by this award.
