Youngsville, LA (March 2, 2026) – Please join us at the Youngsville Police Department in congratulating SRO Officer Louis “Louie” Berges Jr. on being named our March 2026 Officer of the Month.
Officer Berges affectionately began his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office before joining the Youngsville Police Department in 2003. With the exception of two years, Officer Berges has dedicated more than 20 years of service to the residents of Youngsville.
He is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer at Ernest Gallet Elementary School, where he plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff while building positive relationships with our youth.
When asked about his career, Officer Berges shared:
“Even though I do not live in Youngsville, I have always been drawn to the people and city. I consider it my adoptive home. A person working in law enforcement could not ask for a better community of citizens to work for. The amount of support that the Youngsville Police personnel receives from the local community is beyond incredible. One must experience it to fully understand. I take it personally that the citizens of Youngsville entrust us with safeguarding their lives, safety, and property.”
Outside of work, Officer Berges enjoys spending time in the country with his girlfriend, Momma Laura, at their home, The Cajun Country Cottage — BBQ’ing on the patio while listening to Zydeco and Cajun music.
Officer Berges’ dedication, humility, and genuine love for this community make him truly deserving of this recognition. Thank you, “My padna,” Officer Berges, for your continued service and commitment to keeping Youngsville safe.
