Lafayette, LA (May 27, 2026) – Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet is applauding the expansion of the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) into Lafayette Parish, calling the initiative an important investment in community resilience, hurricane preparedness, and long-term affordability for homeowners.

The announcement was made today by Governor Jeff Landry and Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple, who confirmed that registration for the next LFHP grant lottery will open June 1 and that Lafayette Parish has now been added to the list of eligible parishes.

The program provides grants of up to $10,000 to help homeowners strengthen roofs to FORTIFIED standards designed to better withstand hurricane-force winds.

“This is a significant step forward for Lafayette Parish and for homeowners across our region,” said Mayor-President Boulet. “Programs like Louisiana Fortify Homes help families better protect what is often their greatest investment while also strengthening our community’s long-term resilience to hurricanes and severe weather. A stronger roof can mean the difference between keeping rain out of a home during a storm or suffering major interior damage that takes months to repair. It can help families stay in their homes, reduce recovery costs, and provide greater peace of mind when severe weather threatens. Expanding this opportunity to Lafayette Parish reflects the growing recognition that proactive mitigation efforts are critical to both public safety and insurance affordability.”

Mayor-President Boulet also encouraged eligible homeowners to review program requirements and registration information ahead of the June 1 opening date.

Registration for the next lottery round opens at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Homeowners interested in participating can learn more and review eligibility requirements at FortifyHomes.La.Gov.
