When was BYLN Created?

The work on the website for BYLN started August 14, 2022. This was just after Cox’s father, after entering a nursing home in Broussard for a second time, complained there wasn’t a newspaper there. Cox told her father, “Wait, there will be”.

When looking at possible names and domain names for the online news publication / newspaper, when coming upon the name BY Local News, it was clear that would be the name for it. The BY – B representing Broussard and the Y representing Youngsville – along with Local News was perfect for the name of the online newspaper. Within a week, the framework for the news website was done. The next steps were to get content for the web site, then to get the word out about BYLN. On September 23, 2022, a Facebook page was created to give BYLN more exposure and to share articles from the BYLN website to its Facebook page.

On October 11, 2022, BY Local News LLC officially became a business.

Cox’s father saw the BYLN website once on her smart phone while the website was being developed, however he passed away at the age of ninety-one, a week before BYLN became a business.

As of March 22, 2025, the news web site has obtained over 1.1 million users  (according to Google Analytics) since the day it became a business.

About the Geographic Areas Served

The City of Lafayette usually has the major focus of larger news outlets. This sometimes leaves a gap on news coverage for Broussard and Youngsville. BYLN focuses on these two cities to help to fill the gap in news coverage.
